The Vodafone IoT Academy focused on the most recent developments of the Internet of Things and the 5G connectivity, through a series of lectures, seminars, and group projects.
For the Smart City topic, a Smart Parking system was developed using deep neural networks for computer vision. An algorithm is developed to detect parking spots in a street scene, using a popular network for object detection, Faster R-CNN, and applied on a real case. A possible commercial application is also designed and discussed, together with the technical aspects and the business implications.
This project was carried in 2020 as part of the Vodafone IoT Academy, held in collaboration between Vodafone Italy and Politecnico di Torino.
